Making my prototype...🧶

After brainstorming for my final outcome, I had an idea which I wanted to explore. I had it in the back of my mind for a while, so now was the time to test it out.

One of the problems beforehand was the wire being too restrictive, so to tackle this I tried tying thread around the nails. I knew this would be much more flexible, but wasn't sure if the colour I chose would be overpowered by the silver nails. This wasn't the case - it worked perfectly and fitted with the design, enhancing it even more. See the images below:

After this, I thought about the suspending/hanging element I had had at the beginning of this project, and how could I incorporate this. I hung little pieces of paper from the figure to represent the stories I would be writing and attaching, peoples stories to highlight the everyday sexism we experience. The viewers would be able to walk up to the installation piece and read these, educate themselves on what is happening, and share their own stories by adding these on. To have a sense of community, and togetherness, contrasting with this inequality we have in our current society.

I then used miniature people to show the scale, what this would look like on a larger scale, with people interacting with it. I love using these as it helps visualise without physically making it. See the photos and videos below of what I created:

The last few photos above is a similar angle the viewers would see. The actual scale of the pieces would be a little different as the piece would be larger, the stories smaller.

I filmed the piece I made, to show what I had created easier:

I really love this idea, and think it works perfectly with the initial concept I had. As I go forward, this is the idea I am focusing on, exploring and hoping to produce, just with a few tweaks, etc.
