Assembling my outcome✂️
This weeks task was to put all the part of the outcome together - everything I had planned. I started off by writing out the stories on pieces of card; card was the sturdiest option. This was very time consuming as I had to hand write, however, I chose to do this because from my research, handwritten was the most popular answer. People felt it was more personal, and I want people to look and read my piece, feeling like they can relate.
Once this was done, it was time to assemble. I used two large moving walls, and placed my piece on the top, screwing it in so it did not move. With my invisible thread, similar to fishing wire, but used more for crafts, I attached the stories to the board. Again, this was quite time consuming because I had to decide on the layout, the arrangement, the height, etc. I then moved the piece into a dark room to experiment with light.
I wanted to have the focus point directly on the piece, so placing in a dark room and having the light directly on it seemed the best way to do that. When you sit underneath, walk in it, you are surrounded by the stories and with the light being directly onto them, you are kind of 'forced' to read them. It felt very claustrophobic inside because they are all head height; I wanted this, again, to add to the idea of being 'forced to come to terms' with our situation and read whats going on in the world. Below are some images and videos of the final outcome:
