Etching Workshop 2✒

The workshop this week was a continued one from last week. We used similar plates and a similar process, but focused more on colour and the final 'outcome'.

We had a continuous process of applying stop-out, drying and placing in acid for periods of time to complete the plates. Once that was done, we had our designs and could print with them.

I created 3 designs - one patterned to have a 'play', to gauge how the aquatint works, and two with my designs on.

Some photos of the process:

I then thought carefully about the colours, the combinations I would use, how it links to my project, how each one works with eachother in the sense of the actual ink - what will happen if I put this here? I kept questioning what to use and created some outcomes I love!

I think I want to use these specific two designs, the male and female figure as I move on. I have looked a lots and feel these two work together the best. I want to show the true meaning of feminism, and equality. I feel that the movement, and equality itself, has been 'made into something' it's not and we all have various meanings.

The reason it started was to highlight that women aren't equal to men in society, and we all need to change this attitude. We are both human, and deserve equal opportunities in life. Having these figures, I feel, show a sense of vulnerability. The outside pressures and society are the problem, and they create these discriminatory attitudes. If we are taught the true meaning of this movement and what equality truly means, the education of young people is where we should start.

I think in the sense of developing this certain process, I'm not going to take it any further. Not because I didn't enjoy it, but because I am thinking more 3D, and creating something which has a bigger impact. I want the viewer to look at my piece and really question 'where we are'? I think this is going to be my focus as I move forward.
