'Steal Like An Artist'🖌

'Steal Like an Artist: Austin Kleon'
'10 things nobody told you about being creative'

On a zoom, my tutor recommended this TED talk. I went back and watched it after and had an idea.

The man spoke about a technique he used to use for 'writers block'. He would collect newspapers that were going to be chucked and pick out words which meant something to him. Words he felt connected too. Anything that struck some interest, he would choose. From this, write. Could I do this? With some of the research I had collected? What outcomes could I have?

I did this exact thing. I took my answers from my interview and re-read. Which words do I feel 'pop' out? I then chose a selection. My initial plan was to respond to these through mark-making, like have done previously, to see if it sparked any more ideas for some surface patterns. When cutting out my interview pages, I found some interesting pieces of paper. Off-cuts. It gave me an idea of something I could draw, to highlight the ups and downs I have on a regular basis with my OCD. One minute I am 'conquering the intrusive thoughts', the next I feel 'defeated'. This constant cycle. From this thought, I created another set of drawings, ones I can move forward with in making some definitive choices for my 'wallpapers'.
