Markmaking 2✒

For our second week in print, we started of markmaking again. Using our previous pages, we used viewfinders to 'zoom in' on sections which we thought had that sense of 'unity'. From that, we used continuous line to recreate these on a smaller scale.

This one above, with the short black lines, has to be my favourite. I really like the composition, the way the line in the middle are thicker and darker than the lines which join through. I feel like this piece really portrays 'unity' as to the human eye, it has that sense of 'being just right'. I could imagine this as a kind of canvas print for someone's bedroom, a room with a darker colour scheme, above the headboard of a bed or an armchair.

After making these pieces, we zoomed in even more on sections we liked, ones we thought worked. I then drew these on a much smaller and simpler scale. In mine, I felt drawn to the straight lines, ones which created very geometric shapes. I had more ideas from these types of sections than the curled ones. After making these, we created a series of 'card cutouts' from the mark-making, to take down to print - see the separate blog post about these.
