Clay Workshop🤎

In our second week of this rotation, for the first session, we went into the ceramics room and had some fun with clay. Whilst molding the clay, I had the words line and movement in my brain, movement more, as well as space. We started with 'extrusions' and you can clearly see that space is a factor within the clay - you have an inside and an outside, see the image below.

I thought about cutting sections out of the tube and playing with this idea. You can see how far I took this below:

I used little figurines to show the 'scale' this could have if it was blown up big, like an architectural piece. I tried to make the 'L's' all direct in one way, to show this movement I wanted to create. When you look down, you feel a sense of 'spinning', as if the tube is circulating in the direction the 'L's' are going. I was happy with what I created so as soon as I got my photo's, I had some fun with making holes, bending and folding it.

I definitely prefer the piece without the holes in it but do think it looks interesting. It adds a contrast with the straight edges, the square shapes, the rectangular shapes, etc. I think if I made the holes bigger, it would look even better but overall, I like the original one the most - the main focus is on that movement the 'L's' make.
